Chronic Inflammation, the Bane of Healing

Six months ago I tore the lower biceps tendon from my forearm. I had surgery a week later, sat at home going crazy on disability for a few months, came back to work, and discovered that my bicep tendon was fixed but my elbow wasn’t happy. I could work but I was limited with some of the adjustments and it hurt almost always. The culprit? Chronic inflammation.

Inflammation is important for the first few days after an injury. It helps clean up the bad cells that are left when something tears. However, if one lets inflammation linger, it can start causing more damage. I like to compare it to a fire hose. At first, you need the water to put out the flames that are causing a lot of damage. However, if you leave the water on too long, it will cause just as much, if not more damage than the fire itself. Inflammation, if out of control, is destructive and counterproductive to healing.

I struggled with the inflammation in my elbow and ice and ibuprofen were just not cutting it so I turned to some friends of mine who have been coaching people in healing for a long time focusing on diet to reduce inflammation. They have recently started a new program called Accelerated Regeneration. It focuses on reducing inflammation and supporting tissue repair through diet and being mindful of thoughts and habits. It is typically a two month course and I can tell you from personal experience that it works.

So many of us are walking around with chronic inflammation not only from old injuries but also from the stresses and strains of every-day life. This inflammation is wreaking havoc on so many systems in our body and is slowly killing us. Chiropractic can help with a lot of these things but oftentimes people need more. We often see this when people have been coming in for a while and feel better after each adjustment but still have to come in frequently lest they get to an uncomfortable level of pain and discomfort. If this is the case, an anti-inflammatory diet approach could be an effective tool to get you over the hump in your healing journey.

My friends are Kendra and Kenny. Both have been helping people improve their health for years with Kendra focusing on diet and Kenny on habits. Their newly combined efforts makes for a powerful approach to reducing chronic inflammation and healing.
